(Chalky continues to laugh has he rolls out of the ring and grabs a chair from ring side. He returns to the ring and sets up in the corner. He begins to unpack the box revealing that is filled with nothing but large fireworks.)
Mark: This can’t be good, why isn’t Steele or someone out here stopping to stop him?
Rhino: Well he is more than likely getting ready for his match later tonight. But I do agree that someone should stop him, he could set the building on fire!
Mark: Oh no, he’s got a lighter! Somebody, anybody please stop him!
Rhino: Hey its GraveDigger! He is taking the lighter away from Chalky.
Mark: Chalky may look pissed but at least we know that everyone is now safe.
Rhino: Good point. And it looks as if GraveDigger is about done packing up the fireworks. Hey what is Chalky doing?
Mark: He’s got that metal chair, and. Oh my god he just cracked it over GraveDigger’s skull.
Rhino: Good here comes security.
Mark: Security has pulled GraveDigger and the box of fireworks from the ring….Wait what is Chalky doing, he has set the chair up in the middle of the ring, and he is now climbing the turnbuckle.
Rhino: What the hell! He just jumped off and face planted himself into the chair, what is wrong with this guy!
Mark: Well the EMT’s have made their way to ring and are checking on him.
(Chalky jumps up, rolls out of the ring and leaps the barrier and runs through the crowd and makes his way backstage.)

MARK: Rhino, we’ve called many a extreme match during our career but this next Death Match, by far, will be the most difficult.
RHINO: I’ll be honest to say that I thought this match would not happen. I suppose it’s a generation blame with extreme mostly just being a tag line. Sometimes, there would that be push but nothing as forceful as what we are about to see.
MARK: Part of it is put on how much you can depend on who is truly extreme. There’s a honest to goodness lack of true EWA competitors. The proof was in this match itself. As soon as this match was announced, you would expect volunteer after volunteer to show up and in the end, there were only two men.
RHINO: The first person to volunteer for this match was a bit unexpected. So was the second person. Another seemingly volunteered but wasn’t allowed to compete in this match and it shocked me.
MARK: Purgatory, Vertigo and Lone Jobber. Those were the people who volunteered for the match. There’s matches that people tried to make Purgatory compete in and then there’s this, a match the man actually wants to compete in. Purgatory has every right as well as all EWA wrestlers to say that this is the match he wants to be in. This is what he wants to compete in. People celebrate how they forced him into competition. It’s wrong but you notice that they’re the only ones celebrating. To me, that makes him the better man period. For something to pull this man out of retirement, it must take one hell of a match.
RHINO: I talked to Purgatory earlier and it’s like dealing with a kid in a toy store and all the toys are free. It’s nice to see exactly what it would take to bring someone like Purgatory out of retirement and it’s something called Crisis Big Born.
MARK: Vertigo has been enjoying semi-retirement himself. As soon as he was told about this match, his immediate reaction was “Holy shit” followed by a smile.
RHINO: When this match was set up, there was a guideline that followed it. To be a competitor in this match, you would have to be a special person. Vertigo was such a person. Not in it to win it. Not in it to be a better EWA wrestler. This match called to his personality. Someone who could deal with all the extreme circumstances in the match and come out happy. He told me that he hasn’t felt this excited about one match in a long time. When I asked him was he expecting to face Purgatory, he immediately said yes. I mean listen to the match. Who else would you expect?
MARK: And that is the match we have for you tonight in New York and Madison Square Garden is putting final preparations for this match together, making sure everything is good to go. We’ve only told part of the story. The real story comes from Purgatory flat out denying Lone Jobber’s participation in this match.
RHINO: We listened to Purg’s reasons and it’s something he believes. He’s the kind of person who wears his heart on his sleeve. He made it clear why Jobber’s not competing in this match and to me, it’s going to benefit from Jobber’s expulsion. If you don’t have the heart to compete like Purg said, you don’t belong in the match and it’s not enough of a reason for Jobber to be in this match just to take on Purgatory.
MARK: I don’t think this match would be that much more to watch without controversy added to it. We’ve told the background story for this match and now it’s time to get this bad boy started.

MARK: And now, we got to a special ring announcer. She is a former 6-time WWA Women’s World Champion, a 4-time Independent World Woman’s Champion, a EWA Woman’s Champion and the only woman in EWA history not only to be the first but a two-time EWA World Heavyweight Champion breaking the ultimate of glass ceilings….MEGUMI KUDO!
MEGUMI KUDO: Thank you and welcome to a historical match in the EWA. This match is from Japan and it is known as the CRISIS BIG BORN DEATH MATCH! With the following just announced, the only way this match will end is either by submission, a wrestler unable to answer the 10 count or a wrestler’s head submerged into the tank of scorpions for ten seconds. Your referee for this match who’s only function is to call for the submission or to stop the match is my own husband….BAD BOY HIDO!
RHINO: Not one but two EWA competitors on a heavy international independent wrestling schedule which is why we haven’t seen them for some time but these two are probably here on a supervisory role more than anything. Megumi is announcing and Hido’s wearing the stripes. Everything should be okay. Should.
MEGUMI KUDO: And now, to introduce the two volunteers for this match.
(“Groovy Time For A Movie Time/Cut You Open With A Linoleum Knife” by Soda Pop Refreshment Squad and Mastodon starts to play throughout Madison Square Garden)
MEGUMI KUDO: Introducing first, from Savage, Maryland, weighing in at 239 pounds….PURGATORY!
MARK: I have been waiting to see Purg in action for a while as an influx of nothing but basics have come into the alliance and it’s gonna be good to see some unorthodox around here.
(“Where Evil Dwells” by Fear Factory starts to play throughout Madison Square Garden)
MEGUMI KUDO: And the only other legit volunteer, from Atlanta, Georgia, weighing in at 180 pounds….VERTIGO!
RHINO: Another return I’ve been looking forward to because there’s no RVD, no Justin, Credible, just Vertigo putting on a match of a lifetime here.
MARK: There’s the bell and this match is underway! Vertigo and Purgatory moving cautiously toward the middle of the circus style scaffold set up high above a barbed wire net slash trampoline. Just think, as soon as BOTH men fall from that scaffolding, the match is just starting.
RHINO: Looks like Purgatory and Vertigo are about to start this thing off here. Friendly handshake to start things off. What’s going on?
MARK: That looks like a strange handshake. Wait a minute. Are they thumb wrestling?
RHINO: That’s what it looks like to me.
MARK: Thumb wrestling. A good ten to twelve feet above the ring with swords and and they’re thumb wrestling.
MARK: Signaling for something. I don’t know. WHOA! Watch out! Vertigo losing a bit of his balance there.
RHINO: He might want to try less subtle signaling.
MARK: What would be the fun in that? I don’t know what….he’s raising his hand for something. Purgatory looks like he has some reservations but shrugs whatever it is off. Both men are heading toward opposite directions. Looks like they’ve come to some kind of agreement on something. Purgatory and Vertigo running full speed TOWARD EACH OTHER! WHAT THE….woo. Jumping high five LOOK OUT LOOK OUT! Both men not only missed the high five but are now teetering and barely keeping their balance on the platform up there. That thin platform barely able to walk let alone wrestle on. Both men able to regain their balance.
RHINO: This moment of EWA’s Most Truly Balanced Wrestlers is brought to you by the letter W. W as in whoops!
MARK: Both men fighting to keep their balance and it’s back to what’s going to happen next. Purg smiling almost as if to say that was close. OUCH!
RHINO: The old fashioned two-eye poke to the eyes Roddy Piper style!
MARK: Somebody had to get this match started and Vertigo pokes Purgatory in the eyes. Purgatory can’t see. BIG CHOP! YOU COULD HEAR THE ECHO OF THAT ALL THE WAY DOWN HERE!
RHINO: WWWWWOOOOOOOOO! NATURE BOY!
MARK: Vertigo biding his time. ANOTHER MASSIVE CHOP! Purgatory’s chest has got to be starting to turn red. ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD!
RHINO: Vertigo getting the jump here. I guess he figures the faster he can get this match going, the faster they can get down to this ring here and as he put it, “play with all the cool toys.”
MARK: Vertigo looks like he’s going for another eye poke.
RHINO: Now why in the hell would you make it that obvious?
MARK: Purgatory puts the hand up for the obvious block.
RHINO: Obviously.
MARK: Kick to the gut and a stunner! Vertigo caught Purgatory in the stunner and Purgatory is staggering on that thin railing. Vertigo calling for the toss over. Purgatory staggered from the stunner. We’re about to see one man go flying down into this barbed wire netting here. Vertigo ready to….duck into and a scoop up Fireman’s Carry by Purgatory and AIRPLANE SPIN! Round and round they go where they stop, no one knows!
RHINO: Airplane spin on a really thin platform high above the ring. Brilliant!
MARK: Stop the spin already! Purgatory with a stationary spin of Vertigo who’s been in that move for over a minute. Purgatory puts him down and now it looks like we’ve got two drunks up there who have no place up there. LOOK OUT! BOTH MEN JUST FELL FROM THE SCAFFOLD! THEY’RE DEAD! AS GOD AS MY WITNESS, THEY ARE DEAD!
RHINO: What the hell happened?
MARK: Here’s another shot. As you can see on Hardcore Theater, both men stumble around and BAM! Right there they collide and they go in opposite directions and drop like dead weight into the barbed wire net here. That net is so wound tight that it works like a trampoline as well so both men got caught and sorta bounced around. Oh man! Talk about the quickest way to snap out of dizziness. The crowd is chanting holy shit and I agree whole-heartedly.
RHINO: Okay, so what happens now? Does the net get taken down and they continue or what?
MARK: I don’t see anything happening. Sometimes, the netting is taken down and both men continue from there but other times, the competitors have to get out of the net themselves. I don’t see anyone running out here so I’m assuming both men literally have to roll out of this barb wire net here to continue this match. I see some movement up there. Someone has made it out of the net trampoline first. It’s Purgatory. His gear is torn but he’s out first and Vertigo is still up there. Purgatory almost seems fine from all that stuff.
RHINO: He’s used to it. Dizzy? I think he’s always dizzy. Barb wire net? The man sleeps on a Bed Of Nails. Where’s he going? Dazed and confused and in pain is how he lives and unlike most wrestlers, he doesn’t go back to a rich only hotel to dress in his suit and snob it up, no. He just stays himself and that’s a hard thing to do.
MARK: Vertigo making his way out of the net trampoline and Purgatory is back out here….and look at what he has in his hands.
RHINO: Well, it is a light bulb but being Purgatory, he’s chosen a Master Replica Light saber. He’s headed toward the side Vertigo is getting down on and he’s not wasting any time here.
MARK: It’s a purple blade light saber so I guess it’s a Mace Windu replica. OH MAN! No guess to where he hit Vertigo as head met light saber blade!
RHINO: Those things are pretty sturdy as Purgatory choosing a light bulb his way and WHAM! Across the back of Vertigo goes GOOD GRIEF! Either the bulb breaks first or Vertigo breaks first as Purgatory just wailing away with that light bulb or what we know as a replica light saber and there it goes. The blade breaks and Purgatory again looking around for something. Vertigo in serious pain here.
MARK: There’s no lack of choice around here. You’ve got some real exotic weapons around here. Uh-oh. What does he have in mind here? He’s dragging two cacti out here.
RHINO: There comes a time when you have to stop messing around and get a bit serious here.
MARK: Purgatory going to do who knows what. Vertigo with an uppercut to Purgatory. Follows with a knee lift to the gut. Grabs Purg by the hair and pants and SENDS HIM INTO THE TWO CACTI!
RHINO: I don’t even want to think about what that feels like.
MARK: And so a small combo by Vertigo leaves an opening for him to use here. Vertigo grabbing a few tubes of light. One by one starts to break them over the body and head of Purgatory as the crowd counts along and Purgatory feeling every bit of it. Purgatory picked up. Vertigo measures him. Big chop! Again with a measurement. Another big chop!
RHINO: Vertigo’s trying to maneuver Purgatory towards that area of Fire Stones over there.
MARK: STANDING DROP KICK AND PURGATORY GOES RIGHT INTO THE FIRE STONES!
RHINO: Little round balls of barbed wire giving off intense heat. Stick your hand onto a space heater and imagine the glass being made of barbed wire. That’s what a Fire Stone feels like.
MARK: Purgatory rolling away in pain and Vertigo keeping the pressure on with a running leg drop BROTHER! Remember, there’s no pin fall. There’s submission and knock out and that tub of scorpions with a head going in there for 10 seconds. Vertigo looking for something else to drive Purgatory into. As Purgatory is rolling around near the entryway. This match has yet to come anywhere near the ring as both men have been using things on the outside.
RHINO: Don’t count on seeing a whole lot of wrestling either. With all the things around, it’ll be hit a few moves and hit the home run with an object.
MARK: What we haven’t called is Bad Boy Hido out here doing his job staying out the way asking if both men can continue and what the hell is that?
RHINO: Vertigo dragging a rope out here and look at the huge chunk of ice tied to the other end. That’s got to be dry ice right there. You go into that and you stick to it because of how cold it is.
MARK: It’s a pretty big piece of ice and this would be a first in the EWA for someone to be knocked out by a block of ice. Vertigo muscling Purgatory into position. Right, left, right, left and a barrage of punches into Vertigo and whatever Vertigo had in mind doesn’t happen for now as Purgatory’s back was to the ice. Purgatory rubbing his back trying to get feeling back into it.
RHINO: He did have his back to the block of ice for some SPEAR! VERTIGO JUST SPEARED THE HOLY HELL OUT OF PURGATORY!
MARK: That spear came out of nowhere and both men may be out! Purgatory went back-first into the ice but Vertigo went head-first into it!
RHINO: Referee Hido laying in the count as both men could be (“Hits From The Bong” by Cypress Hill starts playing throughout Madison Square Garden) what the hell?
MARK: Either we’ve got technical difficulties or somebody pushed a button at the wrong time.
RHINO: I don’t know. It has yet to cut off in any way. SUBWAY! NO FUCKIN’ WAY! Subway is here! Subway is here?
MARK: The X-Core Soldier has come to the garden and I did not see him at all backstage! Not at all!
RHINO: I know he said he would be here in spirit but Subway is coming out here armed to the teeth! A drill, a sword and a knife! Oh my!
MARK: Subway pulling out a wide broadsword looking like Conan and shit! OOOOHHHH! Just nailed Vertigo with the flat side of the sword!
RHINO: I couldn’t breathe almost. I really thought Subway was about to cut Vertigo down.
MARK: Subway groovin’ to the music goin’ New Jack out here a bit. Got that knife. Runs it across the head of Purgatory and it’s instant blood!
RHINO: A lot of first times here in this EWA match and that is a rarely-seen independent thing that happens from time to time.
MARK: I don’t know if I’m desensitized here or just in shock because the words are rolling and the blood is flowing. OH NO! Subway just took a drill to Vertigo’s arm!
RHINO: I’m not going to hold back here and the only thing I can say is hamburger. WHAT THE FUCK?
MARK: I….I….Subway just got a buzz saw to his….his….
RHINO: Ass?
MARK: Ass. Purgatory just chucked a buzz saw blade into Subway’s ass. It’s just the blade but….damn.
RHINO: We have officially just gone over the edge. From hardcore….to extreme….to flat-out gore. Subway just caught a small barbed-wire board to the head!
MARK: This must be that cluster fuck everyone was talking about. Blades stuck and taken to the human body with them being pulled out. Drills going into this and pulled out of that. I hate to burst your bubble but in the world of extreme, SHIT LIKE THIS HAPPENS! Purgatory nailing Subway with that small barbed wire board. Vertigo setting up a Bed Of Nails. This is the spooky part when they read each other’s mind. HAPPY PLACE to Subway! Subway is out! Purgatory tosses Subway to Vertigo. Dead weight. Vertigo muscles up the dead weight of Subway. FEAR FACTOR! Modified Fear Factor into the Bed Of Nails and this crowd is going nuts!
RHINO: And listen to that chant! Welcome home! Welcome home, extreme! It’s been a while since things have gone as far as this! OOHH!
MARK: Purgatory with that same barbed wire board to the small of Vertigo’s back and both men now. I don’t know who’s leading who but both men leading each other to the ring. Hido has not been a factor at all throughout this match as he has stayed far back and just allowed this bloodbath to happen. Purgatory, looking like someone underlined his forehead with blood. Vertigo, with that drill-sized hole in his upper right shoulder. Both men fighting on the outside here now. Vertigo up on the apron. Purgatory hops up. Exchanging blows on the apron. What now? Both men fighting on the outside up the outer turnbuckle believe it or not. The ring is littered with thumbtacks here. Whoever lands in it becomes instant pincushion. Both men fighting from the outside to the outer ring to the ring apron to the top of the outer turnbuckle and OOOHHH Purgatory with a shot to that drill hole that Vertigo has and oh no. Not this. Not a superplex into a ring filled with thumbtacks. Come on, guys. You’ve given yourselves to these people enough. They may deserve it. They may not. Vertigo trying to fight it of but Purgatory cinching it in. You’ve become human blood fountains and OH NO! OH NO! SUPERPLEX INTO THE RING BY PURGATORY AND BOTH MEN HAVE BECOME GOD DAMNED HUMAN PINCUSHIONS! SOMEBODY STOP THIS FUCKING MADNESS!
RHINO: You’re not gonna get this to stop, Mark! You’re not going to get an end to this until one of these two men bring it to a brutal and bloody end!
MARK: Purgatory now rolling to the outside immediately and Vertigo rolling in pain here just getting more thumbtacks into his body. Purgatory is a sick, demented monster that feels no pain. Every bit the man his friend Omega is. Purgatory with a glazed and crazed look in his eyes. Look out, cameraman. Purgatory going for a huge barbed wire board here and sliding the board into the ring. What does this man have in mind here?
RHINO: Either he’s kicked into another gear here or he’s gone. Yeah. Cover the tub of scorpions with the barbed wire board. Why the hell not? Wait a minute. Somebody’s going to get driven into that tub of scorpions.
MARK: Maybe he doesn’t want the tub to spill by accident or he’ll….I don’t know. HOLY SHIT! Vertigo just treated Purgatory like Barry Bonds treats baseballs and absolutely smashed Purgatory with that barbed wire bat and Purgatory just dropped like a lump.
RHINO: Vertigo breathing heavily with Purgatory grabbing his chest where he got hit. Vertigo going towards the ropes. What the hell is Vertigo doing?
MARK: I can’t explain this as much as I am seeing this but you see what I see. You and I both see Vertigo painting his face with his own blood. Sorta like Jerry Lynn but in a different way. Vertigo shaking those ropes a la Ultimate Warrior.
RHINO: Or Batista depending on how much a fan you are.
MARK: Vertigo puts on the war paint like Warrior so I assume he’s going to channel The Ultimate Warrior here. Subway still out on the bed of nails way out there lying on it somewhere. Two finishers will do that especially executed to picture perfect perfection. Vertigo carrying Purgatory toward that tub of scorpions. Vertigo with a Gorilla Press up! Vertigo powering up more than his body weight above his head. He’s going to Gorilla Press Purgatory right into and through that barbed wire board and into the tub of scorpions! Vertigo with Purgatory held high and Vertigo grimacing in pain almost.
RHINO: It’s got to be his shoulder. Just got to be.
MARK: Purgatory going dead weight on him doesn’t help much either as Vertigo putting on a power display here. There’s the REVERSAL SIDE DDT! Purgatory in a flash of a second reverses the gorilla press and in mid-air, he reaches out and DDT’s Vertigo and both men as I speak and if I’m lying, I’m dying went through the barbed wire board and into that tub of scorpions! Has the “Holy Shit” chant ever stopped here? Hido now laying the count in. Seriously, what else is there to do?
RHINO: 1….2….3….4….5….6….Purgatory sat up and up at five and Vertigo not moving still in the tub….8….9….Purgatory out of the tub, on his feet and coming toward us out here. There’s the bell. Here’s the announcement.
MEGUMI KUDO: Here is your winner of the first ever Crisis Big Born Death Match in the EWA….PURGATORY!
MARK: Purgatory wins this match and between you and me, I don’t even think he knows he won anything. You got to kind of wonder if Vertigo was cost this match with that freakin’ drill putting a nice little hole in his arm and that gave him less strength to hold Purgatory up there.
RHINO: Vertigo dragging himself out the tub literally spitting scorpions out of his mouth and Purgatory getting some things out here under the ring. What is he doing? Grabs a towel, a bar of soap, a washcloth….why is he putting on a shower cap?
MARK: Why does he have a rubber ducky wrapped in barbed wire?
RHINO: Vertigo is kind of in la-la land and Purgatory back in the ring clearing the broken board from the tub that was big enough for two. Vertigo up with a splitting headache talking to Purgatory. Probably wondering what the hell he’s doing.
MARK: Purgatory is in that tub of scorpions with soap and a washcloth and a barbed wire rubber ducky literally taking a bath in the tub of scorpions. Yeah. These guys are gone. It could be worse. Purg could’ve stripped down buck naked and got in there.
RHINO: Well, let’s run a few commercials or something to get this mess cleaned up out here so we could go forward with the EWA Television Title Anarchy Rules Match featuring Kurt Angle defending against Alan Matthews. The crew’s gonna earn their pay tonight.
